Both a self taught guitarist and a DJ armed with a massive
collection of classic funk and soul records inherited from his Detroit-bred
mother, Roy Two Thousand pushes the limits of what one man can do with old
and new music technologies to create the dance party of a lifetime. He has
brought the soundsystem technique of classic dub culture together with rock,
hip hop, and funk-infused electronica, creating a unique sound and vision
of what dance music can be. Roy uses a turntable, a laptop, a looper, a
bass, a few guitars, a keytar, a melodica, a talkbox, and a rack of effects
to build beats and remixes in real time before your eyes. His sets embody
the freeform structure of jazz and funk, the delicious lushness of dub,
the dirty bass of beat culture, and the positive energy of a powerful creative
soul! The simple version is he loops things and then rocks out. To see him
live is a chance to learn about music making, live through sound, and love
what you're hearing. As Roy says himself, "It's so much fun that even my
mom dances!!"
